Acclimatization phase
Acclimatization in Tanzania Pare Mountains: To acclimatize, teams will have the opportunity to experience Pare culture by staying in local villages whilst trekking through the Pare Mountain region. There will be some spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro as well as Lake Jipe and Lake Nyumba ya Mungu. The treks will lead teams through cultivated areas and natural vegetation.
Usambara Mountains: In contrast to the surrounding savannah, the Usambara Mountains rise above the coastal plains north of Dar es Salaam. The area is covered with unspoilt forest and teams will discover villages scattered across the range. There are some fantastic view points and great trails to follow.
Longido Mountain: This trek offers an excellent opportunity to prepare for the main challenge. Ascending through dense bush, teams will summit a peak of bare rock where they’ll be rewarded with fantastic views of the Rift Valley, Mt. Meru, Mt. Kilimanjaro and over into Kenya. There may also be opportunities to meet some of the local Maasai people.
Monduli Mountains: The Monduli Mountains are in the north-west of Arusha and offer spectacular views over the Rift Valley plains. There are a variety of great acclimatization treks available with opportunities to experience the traditional Maasai lifestyle.
Trekking phase
Main trekking phase in Tanzania Mt.Kilimanjaro: The world-famous Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895m) is Africa’s highest mountain. The main trek provides a challenging adventure and teams will need to work together to achieve their goal. The trek takes the Marangu Route of Kilimanjaro, where accommodation will be in huts. The team will be accompanied by experienced guides and porters.
Project work in Tanzania
The Tanzania project work provides an incredible opportunity to spend time within a community working alongside the local people. Previous teams have been involved in projects such as helping to install a water supply to a primary school, renovating a kitchen and painting classrooms. All of the projects make a real difference and are appreciated by the community.
Rest and relaxation
Tanzania has idyllic white sandy beaches and a laid-back atmosphere. Teams may have the chance to snorkel and swim in the clear Indian Ocean and spend time relaxing in coastal towns such as Pangani. There are a variety of places to go on safari and there is a good chance of spotting some of Africa’s ‘Big Five’ of elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo, as well as many other species.
