This expedition will provide students with a once-in-a-life-time-experience, allowing them to take in rare, amazing wildlife, explore the cloud forest, and summit one of Ecuador’s legendary volcanoes. The phases of the expedition allow students to traverse the diverse terrain of mainland Ecuador and experience the unique evolutionary hotspot of the famed Galapagos Islands.

The trekking phase of this expedition takes place on the mainland of Ecuador. Shorter treks include walking in the cloud forests, the Andean Sierra, or the beautiful Piñan Lakes area. Teams will then tackle the Quilota Lagoon trekking up through a desert like canyon culminating in a dormant volcanic crater lake. This will be sure to provide a suitable challenge.

Then on to the place that inspired Darwin, where teams can spot some of the islands’ indigenous wildlife including marine iguanas, sea lions, giant tortoises and blue footed boobies. Teams could be assigned to a conservation project that could include cloud forest preservation, promoting sustainable agriculture or perhaps work on a community project at a Galapagean school or nursery.
