Namibia's Nomadic Desert Adventure
|
|
An expedition to Namibia offers students the chance to see some of the most breathtaking landscapes that Africa has to offer. Namibia is a vast and impressive country located on Africa’s southwest coast, where parched deserts fuse dramatically with the ice-cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
For the trekking, teams will make the most of the dramatic and epic scenery in Namibia. First, students will hike on the Skeleton Coast with its seal colonies, desert elephants and even desert lions. Shorter visits the follow to take in the rock art and bizarre rock formations of Spitzkoppe and the great sand dunes in the Namib Naukluft National Park. At last, students take on the trail along the Fish River Canyon, which allows them to watch the sun set over the African horizon and sleep under the stars come night fall.
Once they have digested everything these bountiful landscapes have to offer they will have the opportunity to take part in some local project work. This kind of work usually involves constructing community buildings or teaching in schools or extra-curricular clubs. Whatever project students work on, they will have the opportunity to participate in a cultural exchange with the people of Namibia and learn about their customs and traditions.
The expedition will round off with a bit of rest and relaxation. The team will have the opportunity to take a dolphin and seal cruise in Walvis Bay or try dune boarding in the desert to unwind, a great reward after three weeks of treks and project work.
