Project Uganda

Uganda is not a large country by African standards, and much of its charm lies in its intimacy and compactness. Once called “The Pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill, it is a beautiful country and has a great deal to offer any visitor.
Upon arriving in Uganda, students will travel to Kilembe. Kilembe is the jump off point for a two day trek along the lush forested hills of the Buwata Community trail; here students will learn about medicinal plants and the coffee trade. They will also have a full day hike to the Ruccochi Falls with a beautiful view of the valley and waterfall.
Following this, students will spend their recreation time camping in Queen Elizabeth National Park where they have the opportunity to take part in safaris to see resident elephants, hippos and tree climbing lions.
Many schools in Uganda lack basic facilities, and as a result students are unable to take exams and continue their education. The location students will be completing their service in is called the “project in the clouds” due to its picturesque location. This is a valuable opportunity for World Challenge students to undertake substantial service work by building a classroom, giving current and future students the ability to continue their education. This is also an excellent opportunity to have a cultural exchange with the warm and welcoming local people.
At the end of the expedition, the team will travel to Jinja where a white water rafting adventure awaits them at the source of the Nile River. This will be a fun, exhilarating end to an incredibly meaningful trip!
