This expedition to Tanzania offers the awesome opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest standing mountain at 5895m. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a milestone experience in anyone’s life and although it is challenging the rewards are many. There is a massive sense of achievement involved in reaching the summit, and the views are nothing short of spectacular.
In order to prepare for the Kilimanjaro summit, students will hike the winding paths of the Usambaras. This trek weaves through picturesque villages, colorful markets and is one of the most pleasant treks in East Africa. Students then head out for Kilimanjaro via the traditional Marangu route emerging from forests into the lunar landscape visible closer to the summit.
After teams have conquered Kilimanjaro, they will head off to complete a service project with a local community. Such projects have the potential to be life-changing and make a valuable addition to any college application. Projects depend on the needs of the community and are focused on construction and maintenance on and around schools.
If a student thinks they’ve got what it takes to make it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro then this expedition is definitely for them. After overcoming these physical challenges, students will get to experience an exciting safari and observe Africa’s famous wildlife. They will even get to experience the soft sandy beaches and chilled-out ambiance that Tanzania is famous for. Take time to relax by the waves and reflect on personal achievements.
