Main trekking phase in Mongolia

Khovsgul Nuur:
Teams can choose to explore either the east or west side of the lake on foot and horseback. Those following the eastern route will explore hot springs, hidden Buddhist caves and the grave of Chinggis Khaan’s mother, before arriving at the village of Chamin Unde. Teams following the western trail will traverse the Darchard Valley, a remote area near the Russian border populated by nomadic families, before descending to the lakeside.

Tsetserleg and Arkhangai:
The picturesque town of Tsetserleg is the ‘Aimag’, or regional capital. Teams will begin by trekking south-west from the town on foot and horseback. The unspoilt scenery includes open steppes, thriving forests and meandering rivers. There will be an opportunity to summit the highest mountain in the Arkhangai region where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views. Alternatively teams can head north-west to the Terkhiin Tsagaan Nurr, also known as the Great White Lake. The lake is situated within the Korgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nurr National Park, where you’ll find beautiful mountains, an extinct volcano and an abundance of wildlife.

Project

The projects in Mongolia offer an excellent cultural exchange experience. There are opportunities to help at several orphanages based mainly in and around Ulaan Baatar, and there are several countryside schools offering more physical work.

Rest and relaxation

Mongolia has some significant cultural sites, such as monasteries, that provide a fascinating insight into life in this beautiful part of Asia. Ulaan Baatar’s famous black market is a great place to stock up on souvenirs and absorb the bustling atmosphere.

As teams fly in and out via Beijing, there is an opportunity to spend a couple of days in the city, which usually includes a visit to the world-famous Great Wall of China.
