Program Facilitator
As part of the Specialist and Activity sector within the TUI Group, World Challenge plans and delivers exciting, educational expeditions to over 50 destinations within the developing world, from South America to Mongolia!
We offer the opportunity for high schools to enter into a program of learning and development; fundraising; and team building, culminating in a 1-4 week Expedition to the developing world. Our aim is to ensure that the young challengers experience an awe-inspiring range of service project work, trekking and cultural adventure.We are now seeking energetic and motivated facilitators and outdoor educators to join our lively, Boston-based Delivery & Operations team to work hands-on with students and teachers in the classroom and to coordinate the pre-expedition field training of all travellers.
What you’ll be doing…
From the first meeting through the entire 10 to 20 month pre-departure program, you’ll work with teams of students and teachers in the classroom to engage, motivate and inspire. Meeting with teams once a semester, you’ll help teams create individual earning targets, plan their itinerary, and generally prepare for the expedition of a lifetime. Working with teams in the field, you’ll coordinate and lead skills-courses for teams where they spend 3 days camping and working on both hard and soft skills. In the office, you’ll be managing/inventorying all the team expedition gear and assisting Expedition Leaders to make sure that every team departs for expedition with the best resources available. You will develop an excellent level of knowledge of the destinations we travel to and continually improve and our pre-departure program with a creative approach. In the summers you’ll be out on expedition – leaading a team yourself!
More specifically you will:
- Travel to regional schools and to run Launch Meetings, Itinerary Planning Meetings, and Pre-Departure Meetings with students, teachers, and parents during the school day and some evenings.
- Make every meeting memorable through the creative delivery of program syllabus.
- Be the “Face of World Challenge” for clients during their pre-departure program and build positive relationships with all clients.
- Arrange and then run operational logistics for weekend training courses or 1-day training workshops. Ensuring that students and teachers learn new skills and new enthusiasm for the World Challenge program.
- Respond to inquiries from and run assessments on new potential Expedition Leaders.
- Organize expedition gear and med-kits.
- Lead expedition(s) during the summer.
You’ll be hard working and self directed with a passion for experiential education and the outdoors. Confident, with a professional and creative approach, you’ll be able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.
You will have proven and significant experience working with students (ages 13 to 18) in an outdoor setting. A natural influencer, you will be tenacious, dedicated to improving and developing the World Challenge program so that every student has a positive and enriching team experience.
You should have experience in the developing world (personal travel is acceptable) and currently have or be seeking your WFA or WFR. Ideally you should have experience as a wilderness guide or trip leader or you should have extensive personal experience in the wilderness including a demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate risk in outdoor, urban, and group settings. Ideally you should already have, or be interested in developing the skills to become a top notch Expedition Leader, and you should have the commitment and vision to work on developing the World Challenge program beyond (and before) the Expedition.
