Expedition phases

The pace and the content of every World Challenge expedition is generated by students. We work with the your team to create the final itinerary, but as a Challenger, your son or daughter will be making decisions about what the team want to achieve while they are in-country.

Most of our expeditions can be broken down into 4 phases:

Acclimatization
As a team, students will spend a few days getting used to being in a new place – bartering in marketplaces, eating new foods, communicating with local people and doing some warm-up hikes.

Challenging Phase
The team will trek through incredible landscapes with the help of the World Challenge Expedition Leader, local guides, pushing themselves to do things they’ve never done before.

Community Service
The team will interact with the local people and have the chance to give back to the communities they are visiting. As the leadership team, the students will be the project managers of the service site.

Rest & Reflection
Students will take time at the end of the expedition to do those exciting and unique activities that are particular to their destination.

Because our standard expeditions are shorter in length, many can be geared towards just a project or just a trek. World Challenge will work with the teacher at the school to decide what is the best fit for the school.
